Full colour journal appearing six times per year, aimed at the active birder and field ornithologist. In French, but with English summaries of main items. Typical contents include: papers on identification, status and biology of birds in France, annual report of the national rarities committee results of censuses of breeding birds, waterbirds, etc., birding hotspots, notes on bird behaviour and status, news items from France and around the world, book reviews, etc.
Typical items include:
- annual rarities reports;
- annual rare breeding birds reports;
- wintering wildfowl in France; wintering gulls survey; scarce migrants;
- birding 'hot-spots': Baie de Somme, Lac de Madine, La Dombes, Baie de Mont-St.-Michel, etc.
- identification and aging of Black Storks, races of Brent Geese; etc.
- Sacred Ibis, Red-billed Chough, Little Bustard, Purple Gallinule breeding status in France; etc.
Note that it is possible to subscribe to Ornithos without joining the LPO, although there is, of course, a reduced rate for members.
